OBJECTIVES: This chapter intends to
provide the basic knowledge on exocrine and endocrine
pancreas pathology at the organ, cellular and molecular
levels. Special emphasis will be given to the study of
the pathology of diabetes mellitus. A basic review of the
embryology, anatomy and histology of the pancreas will be
provided to better understand the basic principles of
pancreas pathology. The present outline may serve as an aid for the study of the most important topics of pancreas pathology and diabetes mellitus. However, we do not intend to replace the basic reading of recommended book chapters and other bibliographic references for a more complete understanding of pancreas pathology. |
