This is a
female patient, 36 years old, who was admitted to the Emergency
Room in shock, with acute generalized abdominal pain.
The initial diagnosis was peritonitis and toxic megacolon.
She has clinical history of chronic diarrhea, lives in a rural
zone and drinks non-treated water.
During
surgery, the large bowel had multiple perforation, the mucosal
surface was denuded and showed extensive hemorrhagic appearance.
